For over 50 years, Sightsavers International has been combating blindness in developing countries and supporting those who will never see.
Since 1950, Sightsavers has restored sight to some 5.4 million people and treated another 100 million for potentially blinding conditions.
Eye care programmes have been established in isolated, under-served communities in 33 of the world's poorest countries and last year the charity was able to screen and treat over 18 million people.

Sightsavers' vision is of a world in which no-one is needlessly blind and where everyone who is irreversibly blind or severely visually impaired enjoys the same rights, responsibilities and opportunities as people who are sighted. Their ethos is about making a little go a long way – and enabling the donations it receives to make a huge impact.
It costs Sightsavers just 12 pence to protect a child against river blindness, a devastating disease threatening millions of African people, and as little as £27 to restore sight to a child blinded by cataract.
For Sightsavers, the challenge of combating blindness is an enormous one. Somebody in the world goes blind every 5 seconds, a child goes blind every minute and in total, there are some 37 million blind people in the world today - 90% of whom live in the developing world.
But the real tragedy is that three quarters of this blindness could be prevented or cured simply and cheaply. In other words, more than 28 million people are needlessly blind.
